Abstract / Kurz- beschreibung:
The dysregulation of the immune and coagulation systems represents a significant clinical challenge, despite current advances in diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. The main goal in patient’s management is to prevent overt, systemic inflammatory and thrombotic events to avoid high morbidity and mortality. Thrombosis and inflammation are associated with abnormalities in the vascular system that can lead to a wide range of sustained complications in various organs, including the lungs, heart, liver, or nervous system. Since humanized models of organs are still rare, current understanding of the pathophysiology of inflammatory and thrombotic dysregulation of vessels is mainly based on animal models. However, translating research findings from animal models to clinical practice is complicated by inter-species differences in the morphology and function of humoral and cellular components of the coagulation and immune systems. Hence, an urgent need exists to develop novel and advanced human models that overcome these limitations. The “Human models to investigate Vessels in Inflammation and Thrombosis (ViT)” is founded to develop comprehensive human models of inflammatory and thrombotic diseases, with a focus on the impact of vessels.
