Abstract / Kurz- beschreibung:
Mutations in mitochondrial genes underlie many human diseases with more constantly being discovered. In addition gradual decline in mitochondrial function plays a role in complex disease phenotypes such as neurodegeneration, aging and cancer. Our group brings together experts from different fields that share a passion for understanding the cross talk of mitochondria and the cellular environment. We propose to use this unifying opportunity to shine a new light on a little-explored aspect of mitochondrial biology – how the cross talk of mitochondria and the cell promotes homeostasis of the mitochondrial proteome (proteostasis) in health and disease.
